As far as pizza goes, Blaze Pizza, Buddy's or Supino's takes the cake for me anywhere in Metro Detroit. However, Detroit Style Pizza Company is still enjoyable. For starters -- you don't feel bloated after eating a slice or two. What a win that is! You know when you eat a ridiculously greasy hot and ready and feel gross after? Yep, not here! My Auntie lives in the area and while there are a dozen pizza places just on Harper alone, she always goes here. Service is prompt and food is always hot and fresh. Did I mention the breadsticks are heavenly?! Just enough flavor and softness to make you wanting more. The pizza itself has the sauce on the outside, however it's not enough to make a complete mess. Eating a deep dish reminds me a bit of a Pizza Papolis pizza. Still good though! A large one topping deep dish with bread sticks and a Greek salad is about $27. Not too bad considering it was able to feed my family! Can't wait to have some leftovers (that's what I get for Yelping at 7am!)

A place simply called Detroit Style Pizza Co. makes me nervous. It gives me the impression that the owners believe they make the best Detroit style pizza, which makes me nervous simply because if somebody thinks they're the best, they normally aren't. Well, I'll be the judge of that. Nearly a 4, just feeling stingy. I had take-out, so I can't speak to anything but the food. I ate two slices of the, whatever it's called here, meat lover's pizza. From what I could tell, there was only ham and bacon on it. I found it interesting (odd, really) that they put whole strips of bacon on the pizza. I don't care for that, because one bite and the strip comes right off the slice. The crust is probably the best part about this place, though the sauce is pretty decent too. I'm giving three stars just because compared to my personal favorite Detroit style pizza place (Buddy's), it's really not that close. I think this pizza is marginally better than Cloverleaf, and maybe even only a little better than Jet's, except DSP Co. costs a bit more money. I'd certainly choose this place over any coast-to-coast pizza chain if I lived near a DSP Co., but there are too many better local options by my house to ever warrant going out of my way for this pizza. Good, not good enough.

*Not To Be Confused With Cloverleaf Bar In Eastpointe On Gratiot! This place is St. Clair Shores best kept secret. It has by far the best tasting pizza that I have ever eaten!!! My kids love the round cheese and pepperoni pizza and the wife and I love the square special with everything and the antipasto salad. Quit Buying The Cheap $5.00 Pizza From Those Fast Food Chains And Reward Your Family With The Taste They Deserve! P.S. They have opened a 2nd store in Clinton Township on Garfield & they have the same great service and food.

Had a Groupon and it's around the corner from my house so what better way to spend a Sunday than at home with my husband watching movies and eating some awesome pizza! I called the order in and the gal who took my order was great she made good suggestions and said it was a little busy so give them about 20 mins. Not a problem. When we got there I was happy to see a clean tidy waiting space with nice Italian inspired murals painted on the walls. Several folks were waiting so I knew they were swamped. No biggie I knew we were early. The young man who seemed to be the manager on staff at the time named Mike was GREAT. He made sure everyone was happy and apologized to each and every person who was waiting more than once to ensure their business was important to him. When it came to us we were the only folks left waiting and we explained we had never been before and were really looking forward to chowing down because it all smelled and looked so good. Mike before he even knew it was our first visit or we had a Groupon offered us a 2 liter of soda because we had waited so long. This guy was awesome. Its nice to see a young man working someplace and taking pride in what he does. If Mike is not a manager he should be!! We got home and the pizza is AMAZING!! HOLY COW!!! OMG!!! SO GOOD!!! Crispy and chewy crust, great cheese and the sauce is fantastic!! I know this review is more about the service than the food. The food is fantastic please order something from here and enjoy. The service was just as great!! I wonder if it's like this at all the locations!! So if you are reading this Mike or Mike's boss thank you for making our first experience with Detroit pizza great!!

Excellent pizza. Strange building, doesn't fit at all. Also they claim to have slices between 11 and 3 daily but none at 1:30. Fifteen minute wait for a slice.

This place is not closed, just a name change. Pizza still taste pretty much the same.

Used to be good. But quality has failed in my last visit. A couple of young teen girls running the place. Pizza was under cooked. Hardly sliced, (needed a sharp nice to slice the pizza myself.) several toppings on multiple pizzas were kissing sauce, cheese AND Topping! Major fail. Too bad really. The pizza tastes pretty good. But the execution was terrible. Gotta keep an eye on your business and not rely on pre-teens to keep you going. Oh well. Plenty of other choices for pizza in this state. Pass on. Detroit Style.

Just moved to the area and wanted to try something new, well this place was a disappointment. Pizza wasn't spectacular, Cheese tastes funny, topping were average. Cheese bread was basic at best. I would've done better by just eating Hungry Howies at least the quality would have been better! Not going to make to a decision to eat here again. Ill just go to a chain place!

So, I had wriiten a review about 7 months ago, to which I received a little backlash for and a couple of notes about... One from someone from the company, and others who were fans, and wanted to explain to me what Detroit Style pizza was.....but that review is nowhere to be found...as I was looking to update my review, but that is not the case. So, with all my "teachings" after my last review, while working in the area again, instead of trying something new, I decided to try DSPC again...... And.......... Eh...just not for me. The service was good...I placed my call a little after 11, to have my order delivered at 1pm....friendly gal on the phone, prompt service as it arrived at just the right time...but I just did not dig this pizza at all.... We ordered a large Detroit Style pizza which included ham, green pepper, red onion, pepperoni, mushroom.. We also got a large Greek Salad. Total $29.00 8 pieces of pizza and a salad....That's expensive for me. The salad was great... Nice and fresh...lots of greens and cheese, I'm taking it again for lunch. The pizza.....not impressed... This time I was more prepared. I made no modifications to my pizza, just ordered it as is and it was...average at best. The crusts all around were burnt...not a big deal...but the toppings, and the sauce, with the cheese tasted rather salty. People compare this to Buddy's or Cloverleaf, but I'd take either one of those before DSPC again. I was kinda bummed too. I had originally downloaded the app for my phone to order online, and noticed on the website that they had all these accolades and awards for outstanding pizza so I was pretty pumped for a good lunch... Maybe it's me...but honestly...I wouldn't get pizza here again if I was in the area. I definitely try someplace different. But I am only me...you make your decision on what you like... I think a lot of it has to do with the style to begin with...In general, give me a round pie.. You won't find me staking out the corner pieces, wanting burnt anything, blah blah blah... So, with that I say....To each his own... Props to them if they serve tons and with happiness...for me...just not my gig... GOOD DAY SIR!

So this guy named Shawn Randazzo (related to the famous produce family?) made it his mission to discover the ancient secret of the indigenous Detroit Style pizza and reverse engineered it so he could make it himself. Reminds me of how the Russians during WWII copied the B-29 bomber down to the bolts. What did he do, work in the kitchens of Buddy's and Cloverleaf? Well, it tastes like he did. Breakdown: The pizza is Detroit Style for sure and just so you know, it's pretty darn good. First, the crust is almost perfectly burnt around the edges. I've had some lame edges at Buddy's and Cloverleaf sometimes. This guys edges are immaculate. Second, for me the sauce is excellent. It's not like Buddy's or Cloverleaf but It's good, I would rank the sauce almost as high as Buddy's. Third, great mushrooms. On the not necessarily bad side: At first the cheese on this pie didn't seem up to par with the local favorites but I soon dismissed it as I was noticing the sauce and mushrooms were so good I soon forgot. The salad seemed just ok to me but that could be because Pepper seemed to have inadvertently scooped up most of the cheese. One more thing, the price of the meal was not cheap. With a coupon from Cloverleaf I think I could do better. Dough was good but I like Cloverleafs better (when done right) I would rank this the same level as my third favorite Detroit style pizza: Shields.

I like this new pizza place in town and the workers are all very friendly and give great service. The round pizzas are too greasy for my liking, but the square pizzas give other places a run for thier money. Very good! The location is great for me too, which helps me decide who I will order from. I like the online ordering system, but the coupons I receive from the VIP club never work so I have to call in my order.

I had a square pizza with pepperoni and mushroom on it and I'll have to say, it was delicious. Very crispy and very unique arrangement of cheese/sauce/toppings. I ordered on the phone and picked up in store. People there seemed pretty chill. The one problem I have with this place is that the price is pretty high. I realize that good ingredients and running a local business are expensive. If you're looking for budget pizza, you might want to look elsewhere.

  • Gary D.

Their pizza is tasty but not worth the price. Their menu lists the price of an 8 slice round specialty(award winning)barbecue chicken pizza for $14.00 (way too much money for a medium size). The other pizza I ordered was a large square with pepperoni and when I opened the box it had just a small amount of sauce and cheese on it. If you like to get filled up on bread then this is the place for you(abnormal amount of bread on both pizzas). The total cost for both of these pizzas was $28.00. Can you say "Rip Off" children?

Hey, this pizza ok. It's thick and crusty like pizza should be. The cheese tastes kind of funny though. It's like oily or something, it almost has a plastic taste to it or something. Also, I'd rather see the toppings on top of the cheese and not buried under the cheese, but that's just me. I have a few gripes about this place. They had one staff member there, who clearly was overwhelmed working by herself. She told us it would be twenty minutes. We got there 25 minutes later and waited another 15 minutes while she ran around like a fool answering the phone and trying to make the pizzas. She was like going to burn her skin off or something, I've seen those safety videos where there skin comes off and stuff. Be careful young lady. Anyway, get her some help. Another gripe. Jesus Christ himself could show up at my door and offer me a pizza consisting of salvation and eternal bliss and if it was $40, I would still be skeptical. I mean $40 for 2 pizzas? That pizza was no where near $40 pizza quality. There better be a gold dubloon in that box next time. I may be back in the future, but I'm just not really impressed.

Excellent pizza! Familiar taste;) We will make the drive to grab a pizza from here. Was a frequent customer of it when it was a different name when I lived in the Shores for many years. You won't be disappointed! Order up!

Rating: 3.75 stars if i could Taste: Simple ingredients. Not overly greasy. Clean. Not bloated after eating lots of dough. Tonight my wife and ordered in because of the snow storm. We had an award winning BBQ chicken pizza, and a pepperoni pie. Very good. The flavors were distinct and simple. Not overly sweet on the BBQ chicken (like jets), and the pepperoni was simple too. My wife and i are fans of sauce under our cheese tho- not plopped onto each square slice. Still, it was tasty. Over all, I would say it is good. The only ya but, is that I have been such a jets pizza Slut that I couldn't say DSPC was above par of Bommarito's, Tomatoes Apizza or even Supinos for that matter. Jets still holds a soft spot in my gut. Probably always will. DSPC is definetly better than Pizza Hut, dominos, sorrento, buddy's, cloverleaf, and any other pizza joints out there in The D these days. I will definitely go back again. Try other pies. Maybe try something better than before. If anyone has any suggestions, I will gladly try it:)

So close to 5 stars, so close. This new pizza joint was opened last month by the winner of the International Pizza Challenge Shawn Randazzo. The pizza is "detroit style" think Buddys. I ordered a large 1/2pepperoni and bacon and 1/2 italian sausage with onion. Man they let you know there's bacon on it. Nice sized pieces of bacon not bacon bits like most places. Crust was perfect with the nice bit of burnt around the edges, and a nice crunch on the bottom. For the pizza alone 5 stars, but... Guys, the salad is not anywheres near "detroit style" antipasto. Chickpeas and olives do not go on a antipasto, nor does red lettuce. And please, please if your gonna do it right use cubes of meat and cheese a not a few and i mean a few thin slices. I'll most certainly be back for the Za, but a side of salad will have to wait until improvments are made. Welcome to our area guys!!!!:)))

  • Phillip Q.

This is the first time they didn't cook the pizza all the way through. Which caused it very hard to pick up a slice, all the toppings came off and pizza wasn't firm. Hopefully better next I decide to go there.

The guy who took my order over the phone was friendly and helpful. I love good customer service. When we picked up we had left one of our items and he ran it out to us. The pizza was so good. Similar to buddy's and closer to us. Lalalove it. Will get again.

I ordered a large square the other day. The supreme. It was fantastic. Pizza costs a bit more than other local joints. Mostly because it is better ingredients. I rate Detroit Pizza the same level as Buddy's, Louis and Cloverleaf. When compared to those other high quality places, Detroit Pizza's price is in line. This pie was simply delicious. I usually do not eat cold pizza after. My wife and son do. Well. At 2 am I woke up and headed to the fridge for a slice leftover. Ate it cold and it was awesome! There sauce is very tomato'ish. Not super spicy. I like the bright red colr and the flavor! Dough is perfect too. Ham was thicker than a nickel!! maybe two nickels. Very thick for being on a pizza and was great! This place will be getting my pizza orders (2 weekly) for now on!

To me this is a twist on Buddy's pizza, which in terms of chain pizza places is the gold standard for me. I was intrigued by the Caesar Salad Pizza, so I went with the large and was very satisfied. Pie style pizza, not over sauced which can be the case with this style of pizza. They mention the Caesar salad dressing carameliziing when cooked, but I didn't experience any of that. Everything else with it was wonderful. Very heavy obviously, but delicious. To Recap The Good: Great crunchy crust, perfectly charred. Fresh ingredients with generous toppings, including the biggest cut of bacon I have ever seen on a pizza. Inventive specialty pizzas and robust servings of the standards, fantastic! The Bad: The dessert options are limited, I went with the strawberry cheesecake, which was solid, but store bought. For a place that does such an amazing job with authentic local pizza I would rather see them do something themselves, team with a local bakery or just pass. It feels like having a dessert option out of obligation where the pizza seems to come from an authentic inspiration to put an unique spin on some seriously tasty pies. A minor issue for sure. The Band This Restaurant Most Resembles: Gaslight Anthem. Local and gritty.

I figured this place was going to be like Cloverleaf I heard it was the same people just a different name. I ordered a couple pizzas went to pick them up and there were a couple people in the waiting area...10 minutes later the guy was getting pretty upset, come to find out he got there at 4:45 and it was 5:30 still no pizza, and they weren't about to discount it. I called ahead for a 5:30 pick up I didn't get out of there until almost 6:00. My entire house had stomach pains, except for a guest and he had the GF pizza. Maybe its better now this was about a year ago...

I love this place! The pizza is delicious, the guys that work there are awesome. Best customer service around

The pizza is really good. The too cool chick at the counter (SCS location)... made me feel like I wasn't a customer, but rather a man she didn't like. Won't return. There's too much pizza choice in Detroit to have to not get customer service. After all, I go out for service and convenience, otherwise I would just make it myself.

Detroit Style Pizza is some of best pizza I have ever had. They have the BEST Tangy BBQ Chicken Pizza! I also tried the Margarita, it was fresh and had great flavor. The dough was crispy and light. There was very friendly and kind staff. My overall experience was great and I will for sure always be ordering my pizza from this company!

OMG - I have definitely found my new pizza joint. This deep dish pizza is as close to perfect as it can get. First time ordering from here. Ordered the large deep dish with pepperoni and mushrooms. Now I got to say - although I love Buddy's pizza crispy crust, sometimes I find that there is just too little sauce. Cloverleaf, forget about it, I'm so tired of getting their soggy crust I'm done! This pizza was the perfect balance of crispy crust, cheesy goodness and just the right amount of sauce. Ordering online was easy and the people working there were friendly. If they can keep up this quality, there is no need to go anywhere else. Two thumbs way up!!!

Great pizza!!! A tad pricey, but that's to be expected with a small local company that uses great ingredients. I'm willing to pay a few more pennies to support local when the quality is there!

Decided to try some new pizza so I walk in to see if they have thin crust. I asked if they had thin crust and they said yes, it was in square only not round ( I'm used to the round thin crust at Jets ) asked if they had a deal on their thin crust ( jets has a large with 3 items for $13.99 ) Detroit pizza said they didn't. a small w/ 1 item was like $5+ and a large $8+ ( I think , its been a couple of weeks, oh memory where have you gone ) I told them this was my first visit to a Detroit pizza and there was no comment, after saying that I thought I would have heard a " let me tell you about our menu " or " let me tell you about our weekly specials " which I was Little surprised about but, oh well, I decided to get the large thin crust with sausage, They said it would be about 20 min. when I got home the pizza smelled and looked good, the topping amount of the sausage was ( in my opinion ) on the lite side, a very fine crumble and the sauce was a little thin then I would like, Now this was not quit " thin crust " that I'm used to, it was half ( again in my opinion ) the thickness of regular square. the crust was more chewy then expected, not crispy ( like jets ) but had OK flavor. all in all I'm not sure I would order the thin crust from here again but would like to try their other choices of pizza. and yes I know I know if I wanted Jets thin crust pizza, I should have gone to jets.

Well we tried ordering from here around Thanksgiving. We placed our order and waited the 40 minutes for delivery. 40 minutes later we get a call saying we live too far away for them to deliver & to call their Clinton Twp store. ASSHOLES! The pizza was made - just deliver it. 14 & Gratiot is NOT that far from 11 1/2 & Harper. 3.6 miles. So we call CT store & they won't deliver to our area either as they are obviously farther away. So tonight we went to a movie 1/2 hr from home & called in an order to pick-up on the way home. Less than stellar pizza. Not enough sauce. Not enough meat on pizza. Not very flavorful. I get more flavor from Hungry Howie's. I might give them another try - opting for the thin crust rather than deep dish. Too bad they don't offer a stuffed Chicago style pizza.

What a terribe experience. The pizza has potential however this one was very dense. I could tell it was not proofed correctley. They did put a fair amount of cheese on though. The onions in the picture are these thin sliced purple onions which i happen to love, but on my pizza I recieved giant chunks of onions. I love hard crunchy pizza but when it is not proffed correctley its just gross. The cheese bread also had potential if it was not undercooked. Gooey dough in the middle doesnt go well with my family and I. The salad was one of the worst I have ever had. I ordered a small antipasto. It had a bunch of beet juice on it because they gentlemen making the salads made greek salad before mine and didnt wash their hands. The meat and cheese in the salad was slimy. I was honestly very excited to try this place, From the pictures this pizza looks gourmet and delicious. Truth be told, they need some major improvements just to be a par pizzeria. I would not recomend anyone here and in fact I would probubly steer them away from this place. I know this may have been just a bad experience but I ordered 3 things so I could try diffrent items. I am not trying this place again on my dollar that's for sure.

Sadly, both Buddy's and Cloverleaf could learn a lesson about authentic Detroit style pizza from this newly-renamed carry out pizza salon. Randazzo formulated his own Detroit-style dough recipe that is thicker yet light and airy, as it should be, with that telltale carmelized cheese ringing the top of the pie. Toppings are fresh and portions ample, and there are some "gourmet" specialty pizza recipes that are quite good also. If this is the type of pizza you like, and you miss how Buddy's and Cloverleaf used to do it (not to mention, having the dough fully cooked all the way through), you'd do well to hop over to this location or the Clinton Twp. location up on Garfield near 18 Mile Rd.

By far the BEST pizza in the state of Michigan! Light crispy dough, a great crust, Tangy BBQ chicken pizza is unbelievable! We look forward to our once a month order. If you are a pizza connoisseur you will be completely satisfied. Way to go Detroit Style Pizza!
